EM and HE cables
On General’s lists, the drum machines from the Mini-Rooter up to the Maxi-Rooter and Sewerooters use EM Flexicore cables, which come with connectors so you can change cutters (for example 50EM3, 1/2" x 50 ft.). The smaller Super-Vee, Power-Vee, Drain-Rooter, Model DRZ and Handylectric lists use HE cables, many of which come with a fixed head such as an EL basin head or down head.
That matters when you buy cutters: EM cables take the interchangeable cutters, and a cable with a fixed head does not.
Reading a cable part number
General cable numbers read length, series and size. 50EM3 is a 50 ft. EM cable in 1/2". 75EM2 is 75 ft. in 3/8". 100EM4 and 100EM5 are 100 ft. in 5/8" and 3/4". The descriptions on the parts list spell each one out, and our finder shows them under the Cables tab for each machine.
Questions we get
Can I run a smaller cable in my drum machine?
Only if General lists that size for your machine, and some sizes need a different drum or inner cage. For example, the Mini-Rooter Pro list shows 1/4" and 5/16" cables run in the MR-250 J-Drum.
What size cable do I need for my drain?
As a rule of thumb, smaller cables are for sink and tub lines and larger cables for branch and main lines. See our drain machine guide, then match the cable to what your machine lists.
