Drain Cable Care: Make Your Flexicore Cable Last

A drain cable is the part that wears out most, and the one that is easiest to ruin. Most failures come from kinking and corrosion, not honest wear. A few habits make a real difference.

On the job

Keep the machine close to the drain opening and use a guide tube so the cable cannot whip or loop outside the pipe.
Let the cutter do the work. If the cable stops turning, back off. Forcing it is how cables kink.
Match the cable to the line. Too small a cable in a big line can loop and knot. See our cable size guide.
Wear the right gloves and keep hands clear of the spinning cable.

After the job

Flush the cable with water as it comes back into the drum.
Let the drum drain and dry before storing it.
Oil the cable lightly to keep rust off, especially if the machine sits for weeks.
Check for kinks, broken wires or a stretched section. A damaged cable can break in the line.

When to replace
