Pfister 0X8 Tub and Shower Valve Parts: Cartridge, Stem and Handle

The 0X8 series is Pfister’s single-handle pressure-balance tub and shower valve, sold in several body styles (JX8, VB8, JV8 and more). If the shower drips, will not get hot, or the temperature swings when someone flushes, these are the parts to know.

The parts

974-0420: cartridge for 0X8, JX8, VB8 and JV8 deep casting valves.
974-2910: pressure balancer only, for the same valves.
971-2500: valve stem assembly only, for the same valves.
960-4600: screw cover plate for the 0X8 cartridge.
940-2400: acrylic tub and shower handle for 0X8 and 0X9.

Counter tip: Pfister made more than one 0X8 cartridge over the years (974-0420, 974-5319, 974-5299). Pull yours and compare before ordering, or send us a photo.

Replacing the whole valve

If the valve body is damaged, the 0X8 rough-in valve comes in several connection types, such as universal (MIP) and PEX crimp, with or without stops. Match the connection to your pipe. Check our shower valve guide for the basics.
